Spring Fever

OK it's official. We have Spring fever. Sunday and Monday were both beautiful days. We played outside, rode the 4wheeler (which Brian got stuck in the creek :) and hung laundry on the line. Monday was a perfect day to hang out laundry...warm and a little windy. The garden also got turned and so we are ready and waiting to start planting. Now if only spring will come soon.

Ice Storm

During the past two weeks the storms in our lives sure have raged. We had two grandparents to die within a week of each other so much of the past two weeks has been spent at the funeral home. As if that weren't enough we also had a winter storm that brought with it lots of ice. Ice that made the trees look beautiful,dangerous (a piece fell on our truck and broke the windshield)but beautiful. We lost electricity for three days but at least we have a fireplace so we didn't freeze. Many other neighbors and friends are still out of electricity but I know the line worker are doing all they can to get every body up and running and we appreciate it very much. Today is the start of a new week and I am sure things are looking up for us!!

Knitting for Newborns

Some moms of the Barren River Home School Association have taken up the task of preparing care packages for newborn babies. So to help out I have decided to knit a few baby hats. I think that this project is just an excuse to allow myself the time to sit and knit, I might even do some baby blankets. I do love to knit and sew and the baby hats are so adorable. It almost makes me long for that tiny baby smell and cuddle but then I remember all the long nights and feedings and diapers...maybe I'll just go visit baby Hay.

Recycled Paper

For the New Year I have decided to go eco friendly. Or at least try. But today as I found my self standing in the paper isle at Staples I questioned weather I could afford to save the trees. The regular copy paper was $3.49, the 30% recycled paper was $4.99, and the 100% recycled paper was $5.99. Now I would like to know why it costs more to turn old news papers into copier paper that it does to chop down whole forests of trees. After much soul searching I did decide to buy the recycled paper. But I was not happy about it and I was also not so happy with the service of the local Staples who seemed to be hiding all the sale items from there weekly add. I guess that's what I get for not buying local. The store did somewhat redeem themselves by recycling my ink cartridges and crediting me for it. Hopefully the paper issue is just a bump in the road on my path to saving the planet. Next step biodegradable trash bags. I hope they don't cost a lot!

Christmas Near the Potty

Christmas Eve usually brings much excitement to our home...But not this year. This year Christmas Eve brought the stomach flu. Oh Yea I'm talking sleeping in the bathroom,or in the hallway because we couldn't all fit in the bathroom at the same time. There was no turkey and dressing no fixins no yummy deserts. We feasted on Sprite and Crackers. But here it is the day after Christmas and we are all still alive, and since we had to cancel Christmas we still have a weekend of celebrating to look forward too. Our tree is still filled with presents and our hearts are still Merry! And I won't have to join a gym come new years. Thanks to the stomach flu.

Christmas Is Almost Here

We are so ready for Christmas. The tree is up and decorated. The cards have gone out. The presents are wrapped and they have been shaken so many times by the boys that the edges of the paper are getting worn. Dalton is actually getting good at guessing what is inside. He has guesses three right. Tomorrow starts our whirlwind Christmas adventure. The boys and I can't wait. Brian acts a little less enthusiastic but I think his Christmas spirit will shine through in the end.

Bad news with Italian Creme Cake

The past few days have been a roller coaster for my family. My fathers side of our family is a very tight knit and very spunky...or maybe stubborn group of individuals. Recently my aunt has had surgery for a serious medical condition and has had various complications in her recovery. In the mean time my Granny, who has diabetes, has been having problems of her own. Wednesday morning my Granny got up and she fell and she broke her hip this was the same morning she was to go in for a cancer screening. This also happened to be the day my other aunt was coming home from South Carolina. Oh and this is the same Wednesday the my Aunt, with the medical condition, had to be taken back to the hospital for anther surgery because of another medical complication. So to make a long story short at this point every body is out of surgery and doing as well as can be expected. But my Granny has been diagnosed with cancer of her pancreas and liver. She has decided to forgo the treatment and just "Let nature take it's course." Which from the way the doctors talk won't be very long. And after the doctor left when all eyes were on Granny she said "I want an Italian Creme Cake." So if it's her time to go she's going out a little scared a lot happy and full of Italian Creme Cake. I have to say it is a good cake!
